Human Resources Specialist

Modern Mill is an exciting new venture in Fernwood, Mississippi. We’re manufacturing a gorgeous, sustainable alternative to wood.

We are looking for an HR Specialist to join our team and monitor all Human Resources functions. Responsibilities include preparing compensation and benefits packages, setting up company policies and maintaining updated employee records. You’ll need a strong executive presence, equanimity of temperament, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor. You will foster a healthy and happy workplace by ensuring our HR procedures run smoothly at all times.

Responsibilities include:

Recruiting:

  • Schedule interviews with candidates and prepare itineraries and screen candidates
  • Manage pre employment, new hire and communications with new employees
  • Forecast hiring needs and ensure recruitment process runs smoothly
  • Create programs to hire, train and develop local talent via job fairs, military recruitment, local college training programs, etc.

Regulatory:

  • Ensure compliance to all company and regulatory policies
  • Play a leadership role on Modern Mill’s Safety Committee
  • Stay up-to-date and comply with changes in labor legislation

Payroll & Benefits:

  • Input timesheets and ensure accuracy with direct managers
  • Process all payroll
  • Prepare and review compensation and benefits packages
  • Administer health and life insurance programs
  • Inform employees about additional benefits they’re eligible for (e.g extra vacation days)

Employee Relations and Development:

  • Process employees’ queries and respond in a timely manner
  • On-board and off-board employees, including new hire orientation and exit interviews
  • Collaborate with managers to ensure performance reviews are conducted
  • Update employee records with new hire information and changes in employment status
  • Maintain organizational charts and detailed job descriptions
  • Develop and implement HR policies throughout the organization
  • Write and internally promote employee communications
  • Design and manage a system for employee rewards, referrals and recognition
  • Implement training and development plans
  • Establish Key Performance Indicators for the human resources function (attrition, employee satisfaction, employee referrals, etc.)
  • Create engagement with the Fernwood, Mississippi community and Community Give-Back programs for Modern Mill to support
  • Work passionately to help us ensure Modern Mill is an Employer of Choice

Qualification Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or relevant field
  • Proven work experience as an HR Specialist or HR Generalist
  • Experience working for a small company where people wear multiple hats
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Human Resources
  • Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems
  • Solid understanding of labor legislation and payroll process
  • Familiarity with full cycle recruiting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good problem-solving abilities
  • Team management skills
